recipebasesOK, you know by now I love my slow cooker and it saves me time cooking dinner at night because it has been already cooking during the day. But what if you really don't have the extra time to even prepare it properly or even if you just don't want to think about options and recipes?

This is when I get out the recipe base, one like McCormick has developed  for slow cookers.  I tried one called Country Chicken Casserole and I was very happy with the result.  A lovely meal but with very little preparation and fuss.

I don't always use the same vegetables they suggest as it depends on our tastes and what I have in the pantry and the refrigerator.  I followed the recipe except that I used half the carrots and celery and I added 3 small baby potatoes cut into quarters, 4 small onions sliced, 1/2 cup wine extra to the water recommended and didn't use the cream.

I suppose I really didn't follow the instructions on the pack to the letter but you can experiment to get the taste you like best, that is after all what you are aiming at.  I served this slow cooker meal with rice but you can have potato mash, pasta or corn cobs.

Next time when you are really busy or you let the kids cook try out a recipe base for the slow cooker.
