Martha I have a pot that is from the 70s and has a ceramic liner but haven't found that problem. If yours was ceramic then I don't think the onion would be affected although you could try adding them towards the end and that may do the trick.

I haven't found that trouble and yes, crock pots have changed a lot over the years. I think they have improved on the design but sometimes the newer ones cook at a higher heat.

Also, just a thought, some brands used to suggest you fill it with water and cook on high for an hour initially. You could try that if all else fails.

I have a question. Back, many years ago, I used crock pots. The only problem I found was when I used onions in what I would cook. The taste seemed to change and the dish never came out as good as it should. I haven't used one in some time. Do you feel this problem was due to the products used back in the 70s to make the pots? Have they improved enough to try again?

Im not a fab cook so easy recipes that have not too many ingredients are best for me.

Wow. . .that looks tasty: Great for a cold day, and a bet the mustard kicks things up to keep the food from getting too dull!

I am using my crock pot again now its winter and find it great as I work and am able to come home to a cooked meal. This recipe is great as I love everything with peanuts. I have the crock pot book you mentioned - Crock Pot Cookbook - Best Recipes and find it really helpful when I cant think what to cook. Thanks for this site and I will come back often.
